Precious Metal Clay Workshop
September 27-28, 2008
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Looking for an exciting new product with which to experiment? Join us for an interesting and productive weekend of working with a material that is manipulated like clay and kiln fired into a pure silver object. This class is perfect for beginners who have never made jewelry, as well as advanced students who haven't yet worked with this innovative material.

Munya Upin, a PMC certified instructor, will show students a variety of techniques to use with precious metal clay, including: mold making - which will allow students to make multiples of a design - stone setting, and Kum Boo (the application of 24K gold to the surface). Students will go home with finished pieces including hollow beads, earrings, pendants, and more.

Woven Metal Techniques
November 1-2, 2008

This hands-on workshop focuses on fine wire techniques including: chain making (knitting without knitting needles), braiding, twining, off-loom weaving, knotless netting, soumak and more. Students need not be experienced metal workers to acquire these textile skills, although manual dexterity is a must for this detailed work. The processes taught may be applied to jewelry, functional objects or sculpture. Samples will be created in copper, brass and aluminum, but techniques may be translated into silver, gold, aluminum or refractive metals. Beads may also be incorporated with many techniques. Students, please do not wear fragrance.
